January's parent workshop is anchored in the fundamental tenets of emotional intelligence as they relate to developmental milestones expressed in adolescent behaviors and relationships. Led by social-emotional learning practitioner Dr. Janet Patti, parents will acquire skills to successfully communicate with their child, reduce conflict, and build social and emotional skills to help them achieve success both in school and socially. Additionally, as an adoptive parent, Dr. Patti will share her journey with her daughter, now 14, who suffers from attachment disorder and share other successes and challenges.

About Dr. Janet Patti
Janet Patti, Ed.D. is the co-founder and chief executive officer of Star Factor Coaching, a leadership development organization grounded in the latest science and practice of emotional intelligence. Janet is also a Professor of Administration and Supervision in the School of Education at Hunter College. She is renowned in the fields of social and emotional learning and educational leadership development. Prior to assuming her university post in 1997, Janet worked for 25 years in Pre-K-12 public schools as a bilingual teacher, school and district administrator, and school guidance counselor in New York City and California. Janet has authored numerous articles, chapters, and books in the fields of leadership development and social-emotional learning, including "Smart School Leaders: Leading with Emotional Intelligence" and "Waging Peace in Our Schools". She believes we must provide every child and adult with the tools to develop their emotional selves so that they can make informed decisions in life. When she is not working, she spends precious time with her husband, daughter and pets.
