FCCNY Mentorship Program Application

The application for FCCNY’s Mentorship Program for Chinese Adoptees, mentees (ages 10-17) and mentors (18+).

The Adoptee Board is excited to offer you an opportunity to participate in the third year of FCCNY’s Mentorship Program! We hope to continue providing opportunities for Chinese adoptees to create long-lasting relationships. Our goal is to foster a strong community within FCC and allow young adoptees to have role models with similar identities and life experiences.

Please read the following instructions carefully before applying:

We are delighted to welcome back some of our mentees and mentors who were involved in our program last year! Consistent with last year, we will be capping this year’s program at 28 people (14 mentees and 14 mentors). Please note that space is LIMITED. Please register ASAP if you would like to claim one of these spots!

Mentors must be 18 years old and up, mentees must be from the ages of 10 to 17.

Parents may sign their children up as mentees through their FCCNY accounts and prospective mentors can sign up through their Young Adult accounts.

Applicants must have active FCCNY membership, but do not have to be located in the New York area since this will be an entirely virtual program. We are excited to offer this program to people outside of the New York area who have recently joined our FCCNY community through our virtual events!

In order to register, you must log into your membership account (join or renew your membership if you have not already).

The price for this program will be $150 for mentees ($20 per additional child) and $20 for mentors. This contribution will allow us to send materials for special events we will host throughout the year.

Payment for the program will be requested after the informal interview/before the start of the program. If you are unable to pay at this time, please email us to see what we can work out.

This program will launch in October and is a full academic year commitment, ending in June.

There will be two meetings per month: one meeting in your small group and one meeting with the whole mentorship program. At both meetings, we plan to have fun activities and discussions that will create strong bonds between mentees and mentors. Additionally, mentors will serve an important role in helping the mentorship program committee brainstorm future event ideas that they think mentors and mentees will enjoy. Ultimately, mentors will serve as role models and friends to mentees, especially during a time where a lot of us are staying indoors.

The mentorship program team is working hard to come up with events that will help us bond! Here’s what to expect:

  • Both prospective mentors and mentees should expect an informal interview with one of our team members

  • Monthly activities/Netflix Parties/Game Nights hosted by our Mentorship Team

  • Mentor-only events and increased mentor participation to help us improve our program

  • Consistent scheduling for events and meetings with advanced notice so that you can mark your calendars early!

After receiving positive feedback from last year, we will be continuing our 4-person pods throughout the program. With these “pods,” each small group will have two mentors and two mentees. We are hoping that this will also allow mentees to bond with more than one older adoptee as well as another adoptee around their age!

After signing up, all applicants can expect to receive a follow-up email from one of the mentorship program committee members to conduct an informal interview so that we can get to know you (or your child) better!

**You must be able to schedule an interview with us. A member of our team will reach out to you to make those arrangements**
