Adoptee Forum: DNA Search
DNA matching is the latest method adoptees are using to try to reconnect with their birth families and learn more about their medical history. In this forum, adoptees Alice Thompson will share her experience submitting her DNA, and Lisa Gibson will discuss some of the limitations of DNA testing.
If you have also submitted your DNA, please come share your knowledge!
In addition, we will have free FTDNA kits* donated by Thomas Park Clement for Korean adoptees who would like to commence their test! These will be given on a first-signup, first-serve basis, and you must be present to collect the kit. This is a great chance to go through the process at the same time with some friends! Signup for a free kit here : https://goo.gl/forms/fUeOsLi1HkRUolrs2
WHO: International adoptees (age 18+)
WHEN: Monday May 22, 7 - 9 pm
WHERE: Ya Ya Network, 224 W. 29th St, 14th Floor, NY, NY
COST: FREE for members; suggested $5 for non-members
RSVP: to athompson@alsoknownas.org, and if you are a Korean adoptee and would like a free kit, you must also sign up here: https://goo.gl/forms/fUeOsLi1HkRUolrs2
Considerations with regard to the free kits:
* These are FTDNA kits; if you have already submitted to FTDNA, you do not need a kit.
* If you have already submitted a 23andMe test, you do not need a kit. You can simply cross-post your results to FTDNA. More details available at the event.
* If you are concerned about privacy issues, please sign up for the kit, and then decide at the event whether you will take it and move forward, or not.
* Because these kits are privately funded, we must follow the guidelines given for their use, which means we can only give them to adoptees from Korea
Special THANK YOU to Thomas Park Clement for his generous donation of these kits!!!
