The Coalition at 40: Special Event Featuring TOUGH LOVE Documentary
On Tuesday, September 29th at 6:30, the New York State Citizens Coalition for Children will mark its 40th anniversary with a special fundraising event featuring Tough Love, a recently-released documentary by Emmy nominated filmmaker Stephanie Wang-Breal that follows the stories of two parents as they navigate the red tape of America’s child welfare system and fight to regain custody of their children. The event will be held at Anthology Film Archives, a historic former court building at 32 Second Avenue in Manhattan’s East Village. About the Coalition
The New York State Citizens Coalition for Children was founded in 1975 to meet the need for support and advocacy for foster and adoptive families. Originally a network of parent support groups, the Coalition has grown to be a leading independent voice for greater funding, better policies for children and families, relevant training and transparency.
There are 20,000 children in New York’s foster care system today. Many more have found adoptive families. Still others live with relatives, who care for them when their parents are unable. For all of these children, there needs to be healing. All of the relationships in their lives need to valued. They and their families deserve no less than the support that will allow them to flourish — and that support must be available to them when they need it.
